Greece shines a light on diabetes!

Athens, November 5th 2020

This year, Greece shines a light on diabetes on the night of World Diabetes Day! The Hellenic Diabetes Federation (HDF/ELODI) and its member associations, with the support of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities and in close collaboration with more than 15 cities across Greece, will light up in blue numerous buildings, monuments and landmarks, in an effort to raise diabetes awareness and enhance the visibility of the condition that affects today about 1 million people in Greece and 463 million people worldwide.

HDF’s campaign “All lights on diabetes!” is the biggest lighting initiative for diabetes awareness in the history of the country and an important milestone on both a european and an international level. The lighting campaign is part of the global project of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) “Shine A Light on Diabetes”, which takes place on November 14 each year.

On the night of World Diabetes Day 2020, the blue light of diabetes will shine up squares, monuments, bridges and public buildings, thanks to the support of HDF’s collaborating parties. Despite the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic this year, the light of diabetes will spread its glow throughout the country, from north to south, from east to west.
